Shinjo Himekko Zoni（Shinjo Village）
In Japan there is a custom to eat Zoni(Ozoni)* in New Year. In Okayama prefecture Shinjo Himekko Zoni is famous. Rice cakes pounded by four people without using water are chewy, smooth and sweet. At Shinjo village Michinoeki (Roadside Station), you can eat this Zoni throughout the year.

Yadate no Shinji (Shrine Ritual)
“Yadate no Shinji” derives from the legend that Kibitsuhiko-no-Mikoto* clean up the ogre called “Ura”. After the purification of the bow and arrow which is provided on the giant rock called “Yaokiiwa”, shoot arrows simultaneously toward the east, west, north and south, exorcise the four demons, pray for health and good luck charm.

Lawn Grass Burning at Okayama Korakuen Garden（Okayama City）
“Lawn Grass Burning” that burns the wide lawn grass in the garden to do pest control and arrange sprouts will be held on February 1 (Wed.) at Okayama Korakuen Garden, one of Japan’s three most famous gardens. The scenery like spreading a “black carpet” in the garden spreads, and it has become a tradition to welcome the spring of Korakuen Garden.
